MCALLEN, Texas — A day after Elon Musk’s plane flew to Lafayette, a plane known to be used often by Gov. Jeff Landry travelled on Friday morning to McAllen, Texas, about 65 miles west of SpaceX’s Starbase launch site, The Advocate reported.

The flight is the latest indication that SpaceX may be exploring plans to build a new launch site in South Louisiana. It was not immediately clear whether the governor was on board or what other passengers might be accompanying him. The plane, registered to state police, spent under six hours in Texas, landing in McAllen around 8:30 am and taking off around 2 pm.

The governor’s office did not immediately respond to The Advocate’s request for comment.

Per previous reports, SpaceX is negotiating to build a new facility in coastal marshland in Vermilion Parish, south of Pecan Island.

As part of the negotiations with a lawsuit against ExxonMobil, SpaceX could gain access to the approximately 130,000 acres of land currently owned by Exxon in Vermilion Parish, The Advocate wrote.
