LSU President Wade Rousse issues warning to tailgaters ahead of Alabama game
BATON ROUGE — LSU System President Wade Rousse issued a letter to Tiger fans reiterating heightened gameday expectations and tailgating restrictions ahead of Saturday’s matchup against Alabama.
Rousse addressed the campus community through a social media post and called behavior witnessed at the Tigers’ previous home game "unacceptable", underscoring zero tolerance for misconduct as thousands prepare to descend on campus.
"Gameday is about football, our traditions and the LSU family," Rousse wrote. "As we welcome Alabama this Saturday, bring the energy, have fun and treat fellow Tigers, visiting fans and our campus with respect."
The letter reinforces key policy restrictions for gameday gatherings. Student tailgates must shut down one hour prior to kickoff; unapproved large-scale events and crowds are strictly banned and no additional events are permitted during or after the game, with exceptions reserved only for traditional tailgates where attendees remain to watch the game.
Violence, illegal drug activity and interference with law enforcement will not be tolerated, with Rousse emphasizing that both individuals and student organizations will face accountability.
The stricter guidelines follow safety concerns from LSU's last home game, where East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputies deployed pepper balls near the Pentagon and Greek Theater area to disperse unruly crowds and break up multiple fights that erupted after the game.
