BATON ROUGE — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Councilwoman Twahna P. Harris' Butterfly Society is hosting a series of events throughout the month, raising awareness for domestic violence survivors.

This week, the group is hosting "A Call to Men: Our Power" at the MLK Community Center along Gus Young Avenue on Tuesday, starting at 6 p.m. This event aims to provide resources for men and young boys to promote a zero-tolerance attitude for domestic abuse.

Later in the month, on Oct. 20, there will be a Survivor Panel where DV survivors can share their stories. This will also be at 6 p.m. at the MLK Community Center.

A jazz brunch will be held where survivors can share their stories on Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Embassy Suites on Constitution Boulevard. The next day, Southern University's soccer game will raise awareness for The Butterfly Society.

On Oct. 27, a domestic violence march will be held at 222 St. Louis Street. This starts at 5:30 p.m.

Harris visited WBRZ during the noon newscast on Monday to share more about the events happening during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
