Kiffin not hitting panic button after Kentucky loss, LSU shifts focus to Mississippi State

BATON ROUGE — LSU is looking to turn the page after suffering its second loss of the season, falling to Kentucky 35-34 in overtime on Saturday.

Despite the loss, head coach Lane Kiffin believes the Tigers are close to where they need to be after multiple chances to put the game away.

"You have four chances to win," Kiffin said. "If one of these plays goes right, and we win one of these plays, you're winning today. And it's one yard. So I don't overreact either way."

The Tigers are also continuing to adjust without linebacker Whit Weeks, whose impact Kiffin says extends well beyond his production on the field.

"You just don't replace it," Kiffin said. "You don't replace when things aren't going well in the game, that alpha. He's just different. He's different in game."

LSU now returns home to face Mississippi State and quarterback Kamario Taylor, a player Kiffin is already familiar with after facing him last season while at Ole Miss.

"He's really good. Really a problem in both areas when he's healthy, being able to run the ball," Kiffin said. "Obviously, he's much better in year two."

For Kiffin, the message entering the second half of the season is not to let the recent losses change how the Tigers approach each week.

"It's about your process. It's about how you work and how you come to work every day," Kiffin said.

LSU and Mississippi State will kick off Saturday at 11 a.m. in Tiger Stadium. The game will air on ESPN.
