Sunday will bring another round of hot, humid, and stormy weather across South Louisiana. Storms could produce heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds, while a possible cluster of storms late this afternoon or early this evening could bring another round of rain. 

Today and Tonight:  Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop through the late morning for far southern areas, then early this afternoon for Baton Rouge. The greatest coverage will likely stay across the southern half of the area. Baton Rouge may see somewhat more isolated activity, but storms could spread northward along outflow boundaries during the afternoon. The very moist atmosphere will allow storms to produce very efficient rainfall. Most locations will simply see a heavy downpour, but repeated storms over the same area could cause localized street flooding.

Highs will reach the lower to middle 90s before storms develop, with heat index values generally in the lower to middle 100s. A few locations could approach 108 degrees if storms hold off, while a weak storm complex approaching from the north late in the day could keep rain and thunderstorms going into the early evening.

Up Next: Another weather day can be expected Monday as a weak disturbance and stalled boundary to our east help support another round of afternoon thunderstorms. Storms could again bring heavy rain and gusty winds, while slightly drier air mixing down into parts of the area may keep heat indices a little lower. Eastern areas will see better coverage of storms.

Tuesday through the rest of the week will remain warm with daily afternoon storms. Storm coverage should gradually increase toward Thursday and Friday as the upper ridge weakens, which could bring temperatures closer to seasonal normals.

Tropics: The National Hurricane Center does not expect any tropical cyclone formation in the Gulf, Caribbean Sea or Atlantic during the next seven days.
