As tropical moisture surges into the region, showers and storms will turn likely the next few days. This will not be an all day rain, and the best chance of seeing a storm will be in the PM hours.

Today & Tonight: Rain chances will steadily increase as the day progresses. A few showers and storms will be possible early, but the best chance by far will be in the afternoon and evening. We can expect about a 70% coverage of numerous showers and storms. Per usual, any storms could briefly cause heavy rain and frequent lightning. Should those overlap with the commute and after-school activities, be prepared for possible delays and cancellations. Highs will top out near 90° under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight, isolated showers and storms will be possible before midnight, with clearing taking place after that point. Lows will bottom out in the mid-70s.

Friday Night Blitz: As high school football kicks off Friday night, definitely keep a poncho handy. A few leftover showers remain possible into the evening, though most should taper off after dark. Still, don't rule out a lightning delay or two.

Tigers/Jags Showdown: Saturday is shaping up to be a busy one across the Capital City as both LSU and Southern kick off their home openers and welcome fans back for tailgating. While a complete washout isn't in the cards, numerous showers and storms could cause some issues. A few showers could show up as early as mid-morning, becoming much more scattered throughout the afternoon as the heat builds. The strongest cells will bring localized torrential rain and dangerous lightning, creating serious hazards for tailgaters.

If lightning is nearby, move inside immediately or seek shelter in a hard-topped vehicle with the windows closed. Rain chances will gradually fade after kickoff, with daytime storms tapering off into the evening. Expect highs to hit the lower 90s during the day, cooling into the lower 80s just in time for game time.

Up Next: Starting Sunday, a ridge of high pressure will begin to build, steadily ticking down rain chances. Classic late-summer weather will then take over, with high temperatures climbing back into the mid-90s, and muggy overnight lows holding in the mid-70s.
