BATON ROUGE — Six people are facing charges after police used a drone to watch them load dozens of windowpanes onto trailers at an apartment complex along North Ardenwood Drive.

Officers responded to a report of people stealing windowpanes from the North Ardenwood property at 10:21 p.m. on Oct. 1, with the Baton Rouge Police Department deploying a drone due to the large area and officers anticipating multiple suspects running away on foot, according to arrest records.

Records show that an officer witnessed a red pickup and a blue pickup with flatbed trailers carrying multiple windowpanes, with one officer claiming to have seen a suspect grab a refrigerator before putting it on a trailer.

Officers later conducted a traffic stop on both trucks, where they located about 30 to 50 windowpanes on the trailers.

One suspect, Darren Cooks, reportedly told police that he breaks down the windowpanes before scrapping them for metal. Cooks said someone told him he could no longer get the panes, but a security guard later told him to return and retrieve them.
Police said they spoke with the apartment complex who denied authorizing anyone to remove the windowpanes, claiming they cost about $500 a piece.

Arrest warrants were issued for Darren Cooks, 28; Bryan Walker, 36; Dante Scot, 21; Ke'vontae Yates, 25; Steven White, 58; and Derrick Robinson, 40.
