67,000 Louisiana voters switched to inactive status after 'human error'
BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Secretary of State's office expects to restore the status of thousands of voters by Wednesday after an error earlier this week during routine maintenance switched them to inactive, Louisiana Illuminator reports.
Trey Williams, deputy secretary for communications, said a "human error" on Monday night inadvertently misclassified approximately 67,000 statewide voters.
"Our staff immediately identified the issue and began correcting it," Williams told Louisiana Illuminator in an email. "We also implemented additional safeguards to prevent this from happening again."
The temporary status glitch will not affect anyone's eligibility or ability to vote, he added. Inactive voters are still eligible to vote under Louisiana law.
