GONZALES — One pedestrian was struck along I-10 in Ascension Parish on Wednesday during grass maintenance on the median, Ascension Parish deputies said. 

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. near the Cornerview Road overpass near Gonzales. According to an APSO spokesperson, the incident happened "during grass maintenance, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was on the lawnmower." 

Photographs from the scene show the mower on the shoulder of the road with little to no damage. 

"The pedestrian is breathing, but the extent of injuries is not fully known at this time," APSO added, noting that the Louisiana State Police is the primary agency investigating the crash. 

The crash briefly brought I-10 eastbound down to one lane, but by 11 a.m., both lanes had reopened.
