WOODVILLE — A bear that was rehabilitated and tagged in Louisiana has now been spotted in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, six years later.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said the bear was originally orphaned as a cub in Louisiana in 2020. She was then rehabilitated and released a year later on Tunica Hills Wildlife Management Area in West Feliciana Parish. 

She was found by MDWFP after a property owner reported seeing a tagged bear in the area. 

The bear was captured by MDWFP, which realized the tags were from Louisiana and was able to coordinate with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to get more information on her history. 

MDWFP replaced her old tags and added a GPS collar. According to MDWFP, she is expected to have cubs in the spring.
