LIVINGSTON — Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte said on Wednesday that the parish finished its internal review following the release and distribution of unredacted checks.

He says online that the issue occurred when unredacted parish checks were released and distributed for a political ad. Once that happened, the parish’s bank raised security concerns and requested that the parish change accounts.

“We took the necessary steps to protect public funds,” Delatte said. “As part of our internal investigation, we also reviewed our procedures and identified changes to make to better protect sensitive financial information going forward.”

The parish’s internal review found no wrongdoing by employees, Delatte said, nor do they believe there was any wrongdoing by any member of the council.

With the new changes to procedure, he says council members will still be able to access the information they need.

“The records were obtained legally and provided to an elected official who was entitled to review the records without restrictions. We remain committed to transparency with the council and the public,” Delatte said, noting that the situation did not adversely impact operations.

“We need to be clearer about what information is confidential and what must be redacted before being released,” he said. “We’re going to learn from this, make the necessary changes and move forward together.”
