BATON ROUGE - Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers got on the board first against Louisiana Tech on Saturday night in Death Valley.

After going three-and-out on their opening possession, quarterback Sam Leavitt drove LSU inside the Louisiana Tech 10-yard line on the Tigers' second possession. LSU was forced to settle for three, with placekicker Scott Starzyk connecting on a 29-yard field goal to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead.

Louisiana Tech went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, and LSU's Eugene Wilson III returned the punt 27 yards to the Tech 44-yard line to give the Tigers great field position.

On the first play from scrimmage, receiver Jackson Harris hauled in a 42-yard pass from Leavitt to set LSU up inside the two-yard line. Two plays later, Leavitt finished off the drive with a rushing touchdown to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.

LSU fumbled on its next possession, setting Louisiana Tech up in Tiger territory following the return. However, the LSU defense came up with a big stop, forcing the Bulldogs to attempt a 54-yard field goal that came up short.
