Fans' Choice Player of the Week 1: Deontae Camel
BATON ROUGE - St Michael's senior running back Deontae Camel hadn't played in week one since his sophomore season.
Ever since tearing his ACL, Camel's been on a mission: a mission to show everybody that he's still the same player he was before the injury, and after his week one performance against Loranger, he's well on his way to accomplishing just that.
Camel ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns and caught another one in a dominating 49-14 St. Michael victory.
Since hurting his knee back in week two of 2024, it's been a long road for Camel. He played in just six games during the 2025 season. In his first season opener since his sophomore season, Camel was just having fun.
"He really had that desire and that yearning for unfinished business that he wanted to put on tape," said St. Michael head coach Zachary Leger. "He's got dreams and aspirations of playing at the next level, and I think that's feasible for him. So to watch him come out and perform that way as a senior in week one and show everybody that he can still do what he did best prior to the injury was just awesome to see."
