BATON ROUGE — Lamont Cole has made a second request for a judge to throw out his indictment from August that accused the school leader of conspiracy to commit bribery, money laundering and malfeasance in office during his time as a metro council member. 

Filed by Cole’s attorneys on Thursday, the motion says the indictment lacks specifics needed to make allegations. The motion lists both Cole and Terral Jackson as defendants. 

“There is not a single count of the indictment which defines any specific unlawful conduct of Defendant Cole,” the motion reads. “Each ‘Count’ of the indictment simply quotes part of the statute under which the Attorney General contends the indictment is brought and asserts that somewhere Defendant Cole must have done something illegal.” 

Cole’s attorneys have already filed a motion for the indictment to be thrown out, challenging the indictment on substantive grounds. In that motion, attorneys say that the indictment didn’t include the East Baton Rouge District Attorney or an assistant district attorney. 

Formally indicted in early August by a grand jury, Cole faces two counts each of conspiracy to commit public bribery and money laundering between $20,000 and $100,000 as well as one count of malfeasance in office. 

According to dates provided in the indictment, Cole is accused of committing the crimes between Aug. 10, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2024. Cole resigned from the council on Aug. 6, 2024 and was confirmed as superintendent two days later. WBRZ previously reported that Cole was under investigation by the AG's office in late July.

Two other people — Erica and Terral Jackson — were also indicted at the time on criminal conspiracy to commit public bribery and money laundering charges. Earlier this year, Terrell and Erica Jackson were also indicted on theft and conspiracy to commit theft charges.
