BATON ROUGE — Istrouma Magnet High School held its 2026 Homecoming Parade on Saturday, featuring a group of students honoring their fallen classmates. 

While the event saw students show their school pride as bands, cheerleaders, royal courts and floats made their way from Howell Park to Dalton Elementary School, a section of the parade was dedicated to honoring two students who unfortunately lost their lives in 2026.

Organized by Davon Ricks, a group honoring Ja'Derrius Minniweather and De'Vonte Coleman marched in the parade alongside families and friends of both students. 

Minnieweather was reported missing on June 5. Nearly two weeks later, police arrested 51-year-old Maurice Parms and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with Minnieweather's death. Parms is accused of killing Minnieweather and putting his body in a garbage can.

Coleman was killed when 24-year-old Corey Williams accidentally shot him as several people inside a bedroom were modifying a firearm on March 18. He died from his injuries three days later.

The homecoming parade travelled from Howell Park along Winbourne Avenue and 38th Street before ending at Dalton Elementary School.
