PLAQUEMINE — Beginning in October, Plaquemine High students will be required to turn their cell phones in at the start of the day, according to school officials.

The change comes as the school hopes to help students focus on learning. Students will turn in their cell phones at the start of the school day and get them back at the end of the day.

"Every student needs to know this: once school starts, a phone should not be found on you at any time of the day. That includes lunch, class changes, and anywhere else on campus," school officials said on social media.

If a student is found with a phone anywhere on campus after school starts, it will be confiscated, and a parent or guardian will need to pick it up.

The change will be enforced beginning on October 8.
