Louisiana launches Pelly-Can mascot to share fire safety messages statewide
BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal introduced Pelly-Can, a new mascot designed to help share fire safety messages across Louisiana.
Pelly-Can, a pelican chosen for its connection to the state, will be the face of public education programs with the catchphrase “Making Fire Safety Soar in Louisiana.”
The mascot will support campaigns about smoke alarms, home fire escape planning, cooking safety, carbon monoxide, generator safety, disaster preparedness and older adult safety.
State Fire Marshal Chief Chad P. Sonnier said Pelly-Can is a fun and recognizable way to connect with communities while delivering important safety messages.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office plans to provide Pelly-Can educational materials to local fire departments, including activity sheets, coloring pages and social media graphics.
