Saturday morning video forecast

Related Story

After big storms on Friday, Saturday will stay hot across the Capital Region, with temperatures near 100 degrees and heat index values climbing into the 105° to 113° range. A Heat Advisory is in effect Saturday, and warm overnight temperatures will provide little relief.

Today and Tonight: The ridge is rebuilding across the region after Friday’s more active weather. That means Saturday will look much more like a typical late-August day, with plenty of heat and only a spotty storm developing during the afternoon and evening. Any storm that does develop has the potential to become strong to severe, but most areas will remain dry.

Up Next: Mainly dry again Sunday, then storm chances increase Monday and next week as the area remains on the edge of the large ridge. More scattered afternoon storms are expected, but temperatures will still reach the upper 90s with heat indices potentially topping 105 degrees.

The ridge will gradually lose some of its grip later next week. A stronger upper-level disturbance is expected to dig south through the Mississippi Valley Wednesday and Thursday, bringing better rain chances and eventually giving temperatures a better opportunity to come down.

Tropics: The tropics remain quiet locally, with no tropical development expected in the Gulf. The National Hurricane Center is watching two weak areas in the Atlantic, both with low chances of development, while another tropical wave could become more organized after moving off of the African coast early next week.
