National Coffee Month: Cherry Bomb Brewing up local conversation

Related Story

BATON ROUGE — A 50-year-old Airstream just off LSU's campus is home to Cherrybomb, a retro coffee spot that's been catching on with people around Baton Rouge.

The setup works like a food truck, but instead of lunch, it serves morning coffee made from locally roasted beans.

Owner Noah Mclain said the idea behind Cherrybomb came from noticing something missing in the market.

"I noticed a gap in the market for locally roasted craft coffee, so I wanted to make craft coffee more accessible," Mclain said.

One small detail that sets the experience apart is a bell that rings every time a drink is handed out. "It's all about the little things," Mclain said. "Every time we hand out a drink a little bell goes off."

When it comes to what drives the business, Mclain is straightforward about it.

"Cherrybomb, the reason we exist, the reason we show up every day and do what we do is to serve up excitement," he said.

The spot has already built a following.

"I've only lived here not even a week, and I've already come here three different times," said Hampton McCollum.

McCollum also described what makes the place stand out. "I think it's super niche. It kinda has like a cool hipster vibe. I think the Airstream gives off retro," McCollum said.
