Man arrested on attempted murder charges; allegedly shot niece from outside home
BATON ROUGE - A man was arrested Tuesday for shooting his niece in the arm late Sunday night.
According to arrest paperwork, Kelvin Wallace had been drinking all day Sunday with his wife when a fight started around 11:25 p.m. at a home in the 4800 block of Shelley Street.
Documents say the couple got into a fight, Wallace grabbed a gun, ran out of the home and then fired a shot from his car before leaving.
Wallace's niece was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm.
Wallace was charged with attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.
The shooting happened less than three miles from where a juvenile and an adult were hit by gunfire an hour later.
Police said there was no reason to believe the two shootings were connected, and investigations for both incidents are ongoing.
