Baton Rouge firefighters mark 25 years since 9/11 with moment of silence

BATON ROUGE — Firefighters with the Baton Rouge Fire Department gathered Friday morning to remember the first responders who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The remembrance comes 25 years after 9/11, when thousands of people were killed after terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and carried out attacks in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Nearly 350 firefighters and emergency medical workers were among those killed in the attacks.
For firefighters, the anniversary carries a particular significance as departments across the country remember the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.
BRFD firefighters observed a moment of silence Friday morning in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Firefighters say remembering the lives lost on 9/11 is also a reminder of the courage, service and sacrifice that continue to define the fire service.wb
