Baton Rouge Arts Market spotlights local talent and handmade goods downtown

Related Story

BATON ROUGE — Local creativity took center stage in downtown Baton Rouge today as shoppers gathered for the Baton Rouge Arts Market.

Held alongside the Red Stick Farmers Market, the event has spent more than two decades providing Louisiana artists a dedicated platform to showcase and sell their quality, handmade goods.

For participating vendors, the monthly open-air market offers vital exposure to both out-of-town visitors and the local community.

"There's so many people from here and from other countries and other states that come here," said local artist Wayne Martin. "And this looks like a piece of Louisiana to them."

Beyond driving sales, artists value the face-to-face interactions the market facilitates.

"It gives me the opportunity as an artist to connect with my clients," said local artist Felicia Noelle. "Right there on the spot they get to look at my art, they get to ask questions, find out about why I do the things I do. It’s just an opportunity to share."

If you missed today’s event, the Baton Rouge Arts Market returns downtown on the first Saturday of every month.
