Two juveniles shot while leaving driveway early Thursday morning
GONZALES - Two juveniles were shot while leaving their driveway early Thursday morning in Ascension Parish.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened around 7:00 a.m. on Prairie South Road Off J.D. Broussard Road in Gonzales.
"One was shot in the leg, another was shot in the hand, and they both received treatment from a local hospital," ASPO Public Information Officer Donovan Jackson said.
The two juveniles, who were not identified, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"Those individuals are being interviewed and they're getting more information from them as well, so as we get more information from them, we'll have a better understanding of exactly what happened," Jackson said.
Several residents were awoken by the sound of gunfire.
"I was coming out of my bedroom, walking to the kitchen and heard the shots and kind of paused for a minute to think, 'was that really gunshots?', and yeah, it was really gun shots," nearby resident Cornelius Calhoun said.

There was no word on a suspect's identity or possible motive, but deputies said they have identified a person of interest in the investigation and that they believe everyone involved to be acquainted with one another.
"That's not an area that we typically see incidents like the shooting incident arise from. It's shocking anywhere in our parish, but especially in an area where we don't typically see those things," Jackson said.
