HAMMOND — A stolen vehicle pursuit ended with a crash in a wooded area after a driver rammed a police patrol unit in an apparent attempt to get away, according to Hammond police.

Officers tried to stop a vehicle near Cherry Street and East Charles Street for excessive speed. They quickly learned the vehicle had been reported stolen through the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

When officers moved to initiate the stop, the driver fled and intentionally rammed a Hammond Police Department patrol unit. Officers then pursued the vehicle northbound on North Cherry Street and Louisiana Highway 1065.

The chase ended when the stolen vehicle crashed into a wooded area north of Louisiana Highway 442. Two of the occupants were taken into custody and two others fled the scene and have not been found.

All four occupants have been identified as juveniles. The two who remain at large have been identified and Hammond police, with assistance from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, are actively searching the area for them.

Charges and arrest warrants will be pursued as the investigation continues. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects is asked to contact the Hammond Police Department.
