FRANKLIN — The St. Mary Parish Coroner said that a 42-year-old Patterson man was killed after being struck while riding an electric bicycle along U.S. 90. 

According to Louisiana State Police, Vernon Billiot was riding his e-bike along U.S. 90 around 1 a.m. on Wednesday when a truck hauling a trailer struck him. 

Billiot, LSP says, was not wearing a helmet and was dressed in dark clothing. Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash; however, they do not suspect the Ford driver was impaired.
