FRANKLIN — A 42-year-old Patterson man died after being struck while riding his electric bicycle on U.S. Highway 90, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers began investigating the crash around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Officials say a Ford F-350 truck hauling a trailer was traveling eastbound on U.S. 90 when it struck the electric-bike rider traveling in the same direction along the fog line. 

The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and was dressed in dark clothing. Officials are still investigating the reason for the crash; however, the Ford driver is not suspected to have been impaired. 

The Patterson man was pronounced dead at the scene.
