PONCHATOULA - Six people were arrested Friday following an investigation into a pair of shootings that happened around the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival that the grounds to close early Saturday night.

The Ponchatoula Police Department obtained arrest warrants for six suspects Thursday and five residential search warrants for the suspects' homes.

Friday morning, officers with the PPD, the Hammond Police Department and deputies with the Livingston and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Offices executed the search warrants simultaneously in Ponchatoula and Hammond.

The following people were arrested on various charges:

Camryn Finley, 18 (attempted second-degree murder, terrorizing)
Dealvin Davis, 18 (principal to attempted second-degree murder, terrorizing)
Courtney McGee, 18 (terrorizing)
Markus Dokes, 19 (terrorizing)
Quentrel Smith, 18 (terrorizing)
Quenton Smith, 21 (terrorizing)

Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Laryisson said the charges stemmed from the shooting and the severe disruption caused to the general public. He also said further charges for the six arrestees would be forthcoming.

“We have a lot more evidence, there's going to be a lot more charges coming against these six individuals that we arrested today, there will be firearm charges, more attempted murder charges, and some narcotics charges,” Layrisson said.

“We're just happy we got these six individuals. I said that we were going to catch them; we built a case now that prosecutors can prosecute them. We got a lot of illegal weapons and drugs off the street today, and hopefully this operation is going to make our community safer,” Layrisson said.

Layrisson says the next step is to make sure there are no repeat incidents.

“I am meeting with the mayor, the new chairman elect for the strawberry board, and their security liaison on Tuesday. We'll go over everything from this festival: what went right, what went wrong, and what we can do to make sure this is the safest festival in the state,” he said.

The department says they plan to release the identity of the second shooter next Monday, and says that is when the other charges will be announced.
