Sam Leavitt's hamstring injury has forced better pocket presence
BATON ROUGE — LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt injured his hamstring in a week four matchup against Texas A&M. Leavitt was able to play through it, but it restricted his ability to run.
Without relying on his feet to make plays out of the pocket, Leavitt has been forced to stay in the pocket longer and let the plays progress. As a result, he's thrown for 489 yards and five touchdowns through two games.
The Tiger QB says he's learned to be more comfortable in the pocket, which he hopes will help his performances moving forward.
"I just gotta play quarterback first and playmaker second. Use my legs when it has to happen rather than forcing it, and I think that's when it can be even more lethal," Leavitt said Tuesday.
He says that he will be at 100% for LSU's next matchup at Kentucky this weekend.
