Port Allen SugarFest brings folk crafts, live music and local history to West Baton Rouge
PORT ALLEN — The West Baton Rouge Museum held its 31st annual SugarFest on Sunday in Port Allen.
The festival, which has been growing since 1995, provided visitors of all ages with an opportunity to learn about local culture, music and history.
The event featured a variety of traditional folk life and occupational craft demonstrations, cane cutting and grinding demonstrations, cane syrup boiling, a tractor display and live music.
Other demonstrations available included praline candy making, blacksmithing, nousillage making and wood working with antique hand tools.

Participants also enjoyed a Café Francais area where only French was spoken, as well as a Kafe Kreyol-la area where Louisiana Creole was spoken.
