PEARL — Commissioner Sean Tindell and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced in a press release Wednesday that there will be an enhanced law enforcement presence around the University of Mississippi ahead of the Ole Miss vs. LSU game. 

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will have the largest presence to date for a college game weekend, with 65 to 70 troopers and Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division officers in the area, according to a press release. 

Officials added that MDPS' Special Operations Group, Air Operations and Mobile Command Center will also be in the area to support public safety. 

"This weekend will bring a significant number of visitors to Oxford, and our priority is making sure everyone can enjoy the game and surrounding events safely," MDPS Commissioner Sean Tindell said. "This enhanced presence is about being prepared, staying proactive and working together. I'm grateful for our Troopers and officers, as well as our partners at the University of Mississippi, the City of Oxford and Louisiana State Police, for the coordination and commitment they are bringing to this weekend."

According to the release, troopers will begin traffic enforcement details as early as Thursday that will continue through the weekend. 

Officials said Tuesday that Law Enforcement Officers from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama will work together throughout the weekend. 

"We encourage everyone coming to Oxford to plan ahead, be patient on the roadways and do their part to make it a safe and enjoyable weekend," Tindell said.
