BATON ROUGE - Playing in the hostile temperatures and being without star forward Sariyah Bailey for the foreseeable future seemed like a small hurdle for LSU soccer against Florida Gulf Coast at first. Ava Galligan put the Tigers ahead of the Eagles 1-0 in the second minute of the game, and it seemed like the Tigers were ready to shake off their loss just four days ago to Central Florida.

But the Eagles clawed back.

Kaitlin Gabelman and Ava Russell both scored to give FGCU a 2-1 lead heading into halftime, and Sarah Griener put away a penalty kick to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

Despite a late goal by Alexia Hansen in the 83rd minute, the Tigers couldn't complete the comeback and lost 3-2.

The Tigers starting the season 1-3 was unexpected. This team came into the start of the year ranked as the No. 16 team in the nation.

After going 1-2 during the homestand, LSU's next two games will be in Tempe, Ariz., to play Arizona State and Arizona. LSU will return to Baton Rouge to play Baylor on Sep. 3.
