BATON ROUGE — A local East Baton Rouge Parish pet store is closing. 

Greco's 2 Specialty Pet Supply, located on Greenwell Springs Road, is closing and holding a Going Out of Business Sale, the store announced on Facebook on Wednesday. 

"Due to the past years of rising costs of doing business (rent, utilities, taxes, etc.), the closing of two key distributors we have relied on for over 35 years, my inability to find financing due to cancer treatment and numerous doctor appointments, my fiancée's stage 4 small cell lung cancer diagnosis, slower sales of products and the increasing competition from online sales, we have made this very difficult decision," the store's owner said. 

Ownership of the store said that they will be continuing to serve the community "through delivery and shipping of our products during this transition." 

As part of the store's going out of business sale, remaining inventory will be marked down 50%. This includes shampoos, toys, grooming tools and more. Non-pet supplies like clothing, tools, fixtures, apparel, shelving and other items will be sold as part of a garage sale.
