BATON ROUGE — Multiple law enforcement officers from across Louisiana were commemorated with a Medal of Honor at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge on Thursday.

The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement posthumously recognized Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Caleb Eisworth as well as Iberville Parish Deputy Charles Riley, who were killed in the line of duty in 2025.

Eisworth died last August after he was intentionally struck while riding a motorcycle. Riley died following a shooting at the Iberville Parish Courthouse last October.

“They'll never be forgotten even though they're gone; but like I said, this is a very moving ceremony for all of us,” East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said.

160 people have been recognized with this award since the program started in 1997.
