INDEPENDENCE — Construction started at the new Independence Leadership Academy in Tangipahoa Parish on Thursday.

The project—an expansion of the school’s early elementary program—lays the foundation for the next generation at the school, the Tangipahoa Parish School System wrote on social media. 

“Tailored specifically to meet the developmental and educational needs of our youngest learners, this new classroom addition will give our students the perfect space to learn and grow,” the Tangipahoa Parish School System says. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the school board, architects, builders, and community stakeholders who made this project possible.”

It's currently unclear how long construction will last.
