'Colossal Colon' at Baton Rouge General shows symptoms of deadly cancer - How you can get checked
BATON ROUGE - The Baton Rouge General along with the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Prevention on the Go are excited to welcome a 20-foot-long walk-through blow up "Colossal Colon."
The inflated model shows what the colon looks like from the inside, including what a polyp and cancer look like. The interactive experience is a great way to provide education about screening as well as what symptoms are most common with colorectal cancer.
According to the Baton Rouge General, if you were born in the 90s, you have double the risk of colon cancer and quadruple the risk of rectal cancer compared to someone born in the 50s. They say colorectal cancer is now the deadliest cancer for men under 50 and the second-deadliest for women under 50.
Louisiana ranks third in the number of colorectal cancer cases in the U.S., according to the latest data from the American Cancer Society.
