BRPD schedules press conference after human remains found with clothes matching missing teen
BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Police Department will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. on Tuesday regarding human remains found with clothes reportedly matching those of missing 15-year-old Ja'Derrius Minnieweather.
Minnieweather disappeared from Baton Rouge in early June, with police later arresting 51-year-old Maurice Parms, charging him with first-degree murder in connection with Minnieweather's death.
Following Parms' arrest, Mayor-President Sid Edwards and BRPD announced that evidence led them to believe Minnieweather's body may be located in the North Landfill. This led to a multi-week, around-the-clock search of the landfill by police and federal agents.
As of Aug. 14, search teams excavated 4,265 cubic yards of the landfill and processed 3,590 tons of landfill waste. Last week, officials saw average daily productivity increase from approximately 150 tons per day to an average of 221 tons per day. This week was BRPD's sixth week searching the landfill for Minnieweather's remains.
