Baton Rouge businesses see sales boost during football doubleheader weekend
BATON ROUGE — A football weekend with two home games is bringing a boost to local businesses across Baton Rouge.
Fans were already picking up game day merchandise before kickoff at both Tiger and Mumford stadiums. At the Anthony Lawrence Collection, Southern blue and LSU purple share the same racks.
"Everybody thinks that we're different but we're Baton Rougeans and Louisianans at heart," Taylor said. "So as long as it's for the game of football we're all the same and we're here to cater to everybody."
With both teams playing at home, Taylor says the store is seeing more merchandise move off the shelves this weekend.
"With it being a doubleheader for our football games, our approach is the same," Taylor said. "We cater to everybody to come in and of course we're wanting all of products to be off the shelf. So it is a definite increase in getting those products sold and getting those products worn."
A few miles away at Empire Wings in north Baton Rouge, more fans in town means more orders coming through the kitchen.
"All home games, there's a lot more people in the city so by us having the best wings in the city people gravitate towards us so we're real busy," Vic said. "We have a lot of online orders, catering. There's definitely an increase during home games."

Vic says preparation starts well before the crowds arrive. "When we have home games we make sure we're fully staffed," Vic said. "We add extra staff, more ordering. Whether it's chicken, fries and everything we sell, we just order more in preparation."
