BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge has been added to a list of potential permanent homes for the National High School Football Hall of Fame.

Baton Rouge joins Valdosta, Georgia; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Steubenville, Ohio on the list of candidates, the National High School Football Hall of Fame Foundation announced Tuesday. 

The foundation received a letter of recommendation from Lt. Gov. Billy Nusgesser on Sept. 15. 

"Baton Rouge is an ideal location for an institution dedicated to recognizing and preserving the history, achievements and lasting impact of high school football, especially since Louisiana has such a proud and deeply rooted football tradition," the letter says. 

The proposed Hall of Fame would preserve high school football history through exhibits, memorabilia, educational experiences and recognition of outstanding players, coaches, teams and contributors. 

“Baton Rouge has the high school football tradition, the passion of LSU, and the excitement of SEC football,” LaMont Robinson, founder and chairman of the National High School Football Hall of Fame Foundation, said. “It is a compelling setting to celebrate the players, coaches, and communities where football greatness begins.”

As of Tuesday, no final location has been selected.
