BACK 2 SCHOOL: Tangipahoa Parish
AMITE - In the Tangipahoa School District, many new things are happening for the 2025-2026 school year. One very big improvement for the schools is gym ACs. There will be new units in 15 gyms throughout the school district.
President of the school board, Tom Tolar, said "It's very needed, especially in South Louisiana." There are also new classrooms being built in the larger schools to help with crowding, Tolar adds.
As the population of students has grown in the parish, so have the test scores. There has been improvement in math, English, and reading, along with 92% of eighth-grade students scoring 'advanced' or 'mastery' in math.
Security is a big priority for this school year. Recourse officers are in every higher-level school. The officers are hired through the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. The school system pays the sheriff's office to use their officers.
The entire population of students in the Tangipahoa Parish school system is 20,700 students.
