BATON ROUGE — Archery season for four Louisiana deer areas will begin Sept. 19, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced. 

Hunters in deer areas three, seven, eight and 10 will be allowed to hunt deer with a bow. The season will begin for the other deer areas on Oct. 1.

Deer hunters are required to have a basic hunting license and a deer license. A youth hunting license is required for those 17 and under. Licenses can be purchased on the LDWF licensing page. 

Before hunting, all deer hunters, regardless of age or license status, must obtain deer tags. The tags must be in their possession while hunting and immediately after killing the deer. The deer must also be tagged before it is moved. Hunters must record required information for tagged deer and validate tags within 72 hours. Hunters may validate deer by utilizing text-to-tag, tagging through the LDWF web portal or the LDWF web portal via LA Wallet, or by calling the validation toll-free number at 225-267-9998.
