BATON ROUGE — Following his narrow loss to Republican Julia Letlow in the race for U.S. Senate, Democrat Jamie Davis hinted at running in opposition to Gov. Jeff Landry in 2027.

Davis said the people of Louisiana deserve safe drinking water, clean air and good schools regardless of ZIP code.

"And of course, we all want good health care in our communities. That’s not too much to ask. So that’s why we have to continue to fight, because I believe that we are all up for the next fight," Davis continued.

"Jeff Landry, you're on notice, buddy," Davis, joined by members of his campaign and New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno, told his supporters to rapturous applause on election night.

When asked about what comes next, Davis did not rule out running for another state office.

"The one thing I will promise you is that the Jamie Davis campaign machine will be supporting whoever runs for governor and any of the other statewide races," he said.

The third-generation farmer said that his campaign "turned away from a campaign a long time ago."

"It turned into a movement," Davis said.

Davis garnered 49.12% of the vote against Letlow's 50.88%, a difference of about 25,000 votes, during Tuesday's midterm election. During his election party address, Davis said the race was "too close to call."
