Wednesday morning video forecast

Related Story

The hot and humid weather pattern is not going anywhere, anytime soon. For the next 7 days, highs will be in the upper 90s with a few pop-up storms each afternoon.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect for the entire Capital Area from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The heat index, or feels-like temperature, will be in the triple digits for several hours, likely topping out near 110°. Take frequent breaks in the shade, stay well-hydrated, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Now that the intense heat has been ongoing for over a week, remember that the effects of it stack up over time. As it continues, consider checking in with friends and family — especially the elderly or anyone without access to A/C.

Today & Tonight: Expect a quiet start to Wednesday, with morning lows hovering in the upper 70s before high temps push into the upper 90s later in the day. The oppressive humidity will drive heat index values about 10 degrees higher than the actual temperature. A few fortunate spots could get brief relief from isolated afternoon pop-up storms, though most will stay dry. Any storm is capable of delivering torrential downpours and strong wind gusts. Expect activity to taper off after dark, leaving another warm night in the upper 70s.

Up Next: We are locked into this pattern for the foreseeable future, with afternoon highs holding firm in the upper 90s right through the weekend and into next week. Expect more heat alerts to be issued as the relentless warmth continues to stack up. Spotty to isolated pop-up storms will stick around, but plenty of folks will stay dry on any given day. Nights won't offer much relief either, as temperatures bottom out in the mid-to-upper 70s—keeping air conditioners running nonstop and increasing health risks for anyone without reliable cooling.
