BATON ROUGE - Family and friends of a Baton Rouge man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash gathered to honor his life 100 days after he died.
The ceremony honored John Le Nguyen. His photo now rests on an altar surrounded by others who also passed away. Family and community members gathered to pray for peace and say goodbye with love.
“We do this as kind of like a send-off for them," Julie Nguyen, John's sister, said. "We're praying for enlightenment and peace for them."
For Julie and her family, the last three and a half months have been filled with grief and unanswered questions.
John Nguyen was found shortly before midnight on July 25 along Greenwell Springs Road near Airline Highway. Investigators believe a car hit him there, and 100 days later, no arrests have been made.
“There is genuinely not much we can do without closure from not knowing who did this to him. But just staying as a family unit has been the best thing,” Julie Nguyen said.
The family said his two children now face growing up without their father. His son is expected to graduate high school soon, a milestone the family said John should be here to see.
“My nephew does have to grow up without his dad now. My niece has to grow up without his dad now, and that's not fair,” his sister said.
The Nguyen family continues to pray for peace and is pleading for whoever hit John to come forward.
“Justice is someone coming forward with the truth, so that we can just close this and end this chapter, so that we can mourn properly,” she said.
WBRZ reached out to Baton Rouge Police for updates on the case. We're still waiting to hear back from a spokesperson.
