Plaquemine upsets Zachary 21-16 in season opening thriller

PLAQUEMINE, La. - The upset of the week to start off the high school season in Louisiana might very well have been in Plaquemine as the Green Devils took down the Zachary Broncos 21-16.
The game sat tied at 7-7 heading into the second half, and the third quarter started off with mostly big plays from the defense. Neither side had an easy time moving the ball, but Zachary came close to taking the lead.
Senior quarterback Jacori Platt had senior wide receiver Ethan Kimmie for a touchdown, but the pass stretched just outside of Kimmie's grasp and Zachary came up empty on the drive.
Plaquemine took the lead soon after. Senior quarterback John Walker V found senior tight end Raiaunce Williby for a massive gain to put the Green Devils inside the 10. Walker ran it in himself a few plays later.
Next week, Plaquemine plays West Monroe on the road, and Zachary plays Acadiana on the road as well.
