OXFORD, Ms. — With all the storylines going into the Tigers' matchup against Ole Miss, the game isn't just about bragging rights or which team will take its first loss of the 2026 season; it's about a rivalry that runs deep.

"Everyone's acting like this is a big deal because of Lane Kiffin. This is the Kiffin Bowl," a fan said. "The Magnolia Bowl is going to be a big deal no matter what. This is the first time both teams have been a Top 10 team since 1962."

The Magnolia Bowl gets its name from the state flower shared by both Louisiana and Mississippi. The rivalry dates back more than 100 years, drawing fans from thousands of miles away, with some fans coming from as far away as Pennsylvania.

"The best thing about college football is the rivalries," another fan said. "And the more that you can put on it, the more it gets the players going, and it gets the fans involved. That's what it's all about. "

Despite the rich tradition and history, the Magnolia Bowl didn't have a trophy until 2008.

Evan Trap, a sculpture student from LSU, was tasked with creating a trophy after LSU student government gave him just weeks to design, cast and finish the trophy.

Trap admitted that he would love to see the trophy back home in Louisiana, as Ole Miss currently holds the trophy.

"It's a football war, but its a culture war. It's a regional war."
