Historic Lincoln Theatre hosts 77th anniversary ribbon cutting following years of renovations

BATON ROUGE — Community members gathered Thursday evening to mark the 77th anniversary of the historic Lincoln Theatre, celebrating decades of cultural heritage following years of dedicated restoration efforts.

First opened in 1949, the landmark venue welcomed dozens of attendees who toured the newly completed upgrades and explored the facility’s latest addition: the new home of the Louisiana Black Hall of Fame Museum.

Board member Tara Wicker reflected on the deep personal connections local residents share with the storied space.

"You'll hear people say this was the first place they ever came to see a movie. I was able to walk here. I had my first date here," Wicker said. "All kinds of memories—just wonderful, wonderful thoughts about the value and the impact that this facility, that this building, has had on so many people's lives."

Celebrations will continue next month when the Lincoln Theatre hosts an official grand opening ceremony, highlighted by the lighting of the venue’s iconic marquee sign.
