BATON ROUGE — Diesel prices in Louisiana are averaging $5.22 per gallon, which is raising concerns for several industries.
On average, it costs the East Baton Rouge Parish School System $350 to fill a bus.
For now, officials say they are not feeling the pinch because they buy diesel in bulk.
"Luckily, we are not seeing the impact that the public is seeing because we buy in bulk and because we have contracts.. The cost of diesel is a little over five dollars a gallon right now and luckily, we're averaging around three eighty a gallon," said Rob Howle, Administrative Director of Transportation with East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
Howle said if diesel prices stay high for more than a month, it could cost the school district about $120,000 a month.
