Department of Corrections: 50-year-old Elayn Hunt Correctional Center inmate dies

ST. GABRIEL — A 50-year-old inmate died at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, Department of Corrections officials said.
Paul Gathreaux died Tuesday, March 31, officials said. According to DOC, Gathreaux was serving a 49-year sentence for armed robbery and was projected to be released in July 2054.
Gathreaux's cause of death is still pending, with an autopsy ordered.
DOC said they are investigating Gathreaux's death.
WBRZ has reported on several other inmate deaths at Elayn Hunt this year alone, with the most recent being the death of 42-year-old David Closson on March 6.
