Blake Baker: "The ultimate goal is to bring a national championship to LSU"

BATON ROUGE - Blake Baker could be a head coach somewhere, such as Tulane or Memphis, but he chose to stay at LSU for another season as the Tigers' defensive coordinator when Lane Kiffin came in to replace Brian Kelly.
A few things went into that decision for the former Tulane linebacker.
"I had a couple of great opportunities," Baker said. "It starts with my family. Being able to have that conversation with them, my kids are getting older now, so they're part of that conversation as well, but we're extremely happy here in Baton Rouge. And then the second part, talking to coach (Lane) Kiffin, I truly believe with what he does on offense and what we do on defense, the ultimate goal is to bring a national championship to LSU."
Lane Kiffin has previously said he doesn't try to do too much on the defensive side of the ball. Baker's opinion on the matter is consistent with that.
"It's been outstanding. I think (Kiffin's) been really, really good to me. There are times as a head coach when he wants to see certain things, but a lot of times he suggests and it's a true suggestion. A lot of times they're really good ideas. He's a really smart football coach regardless of what side of the ball it is."
During the 2025 season, Baker's second as LSU's defensive coordinator, the Tigers went from the 59th-ranked scoring defense to the 23rd.
