BATON ROUGE - Two shootings that happened half a mile away from one another Sunday night are connected, police told WBRZ on Monday.

Baton Rouge Police officers said that 42-year-old Antoine Parker was found shot to death on Jackson Street near the corner of 30th Street around 7:45 p.m. On Monday, Derick Holmes was taken into custody in Parker's killing.

At 8:15 p.m., police responded to a separate shooting half a mile away from where Parker was killed. One person was taken to a hospital in stable condition. WBRZ learned that Holmes was the person transported.

“Detectives were able to put the two shootings together and the victim from the 39th street is actually the suspect and he was arrested for the murder of Antoine Parker,” Baton Rouge Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Saundra Watts said.

It's unclear who shot Holmes but officers said he had a gunshot wound to his leg.

Watts said with the community’s help they were able to unfold the case.

“Sometimes what may seem small to the public is one of the things that we are looking for will bring justice to the family,” she said. "Once we start working together more frequently we'll be able to see an impact on crime, and hopefully bring justice not only to Mr. Parker's family."

BRPD is still looking into the connection between Holmes and Parker.
